Prices were mainly steady for the sheep offering on Monday. Top prime lambs made $100-$107, second cut $90-$99, third cut $82-$88. Store lambs mainly sold for $62-$73, ewes $69-$75, with the steady theme continuing throughout.
On Wednesday prime cattle took centre stage. Strong processor demand for cows and heavy bulls pushed prices up. Beef cows traded at $2.12-$2.25/kg, heavy Friesian lines $1.97-$2.10/kg. Medium dairy lines made $1.84-$1.95/kg, lighter types $1.67-$1.75/kg. Heavy bulls sold for an impressive $3.04-$3.10/kg, medium types $2.77-$2.92/kg.
Good quality R2 and R1 steers sold to strong demand at the smaller store sale on Thursday. The top R2 steers fetched $1240-$1400, $2.75-$2.94/kg, medium $1120-$1220, $2.82-$3.02/kg, light $1100, $3.03-$3.12/kg.
R2 heifers sold to market value with good types earning $1140-1255, $2.62-$2.71/kg. Medium types made the highest cpk rates at $2.81-$2.92/kg, $1000-$1070. Lighter crossbred lines earned $850-$1000, $2.58-$2.90/kg.
A small offering of R2 bulls returned $1365.
Good competition from an enthusiastic bench saw the better R1 steers make $1090-$1150, $3.21-$3.27/kg, R1 bulls $560. In the weaner pens good steers earned $850-$960, medium $720-$850. Weaner heifers sold for $610-$690.
