Demand was strong from the first pen to the last. Competition was hot for the quality traditional lines, and those missing out on securing these turned their focus to the Hereford-Friesian cattle.
Purebred Angus and Hereford R2 steers sold for $1310-$1425, $3.05-$3.11/kg, though lighter Hereford earned $3.12-$3.15/kg. Charolais also made top dollar at $3.02-$3.10/kg.
For those missing out on the traditional lines, there were plenty of good quality Hereford-Friesian as an alternative, and the market was firm. Premiums were paid for 399-402kg, which made $2.92-$2.99/kg, with most other lines fetching $2.81-$2.87/kg.
Angus and Hereford heifers followed their brothers as the most hotly contested lines, returning $2.76-$2.86/kg, with the next cut at $2.60-$2.73/kg. Hereford-Friesian, mainly sold for $2.55-$2.68/kg at $920-$1250.
