Store hogget pens showed the end of season wind-down with just 400 head offered, most of which were Merino.

Two top lines of crossbred sold to $85-$90; the top Merino mixed-sex line made $114. Merino ewe hoggets made $66-$81.

Extra buying power for prime hoggets saw prices firm, with most of the 1000 offered selling for $110-$137.

Ewe prices also firmed, and medium to good lines returned $72-$89, heavy $90-$109.

Big lines in the ewes with lambs-at-foot section pushed numbers up to 920. One line of 417 sold for $71, with most other lines trading at $60-$65.

Strong prices the previous week drew more cattle out in all sections, but the market couldn’t hold and prices eased across the board.

Prime steers sold for $2.78-$2.86/kg, with Friesian-cross and lighter Hereford-cross at $2.60-$2.71/kg. Friesian bulls, 531-593kg, made $2.63-$2.67/kg.

A big offering of heifers had a good mix of dairy and beef, but prices also eased.

Good beef heifers made $2.78-$2.87/kg, with prices dropping back to $2.54-$2.64/kg for Friesian.

Lesser Friesian-cross took a hit, making $1.66-$1.67/kg.

Highlights in the cow pens included Angus-cross, 560-669kg, at $1.89-$1.95/kg, but in general prices eased.
